Deer Lake's devilish union was sealed over a worn poker table late one night by Larry Lean, one-time frontispiece with much-missed indie sprawlers Annie Christian and Dean Owens, heroic troubadour and former engine room of The Felsons. The idea was the aural equivalent of watching David Lynch direct Tom Waits singing a Joni Mitchell song in the backroom of a Mexican cantina. Mere months into the experiment, the fruits of the graft have resulted in some truly ingenious, spectral music.
